Kathy J. Weiman Center

The Kathy J. Weiman Child Advocacy Centre & Trauma Institute is located on the campus of the University of Missouri – St. Louis. The Centre provides crisis intervention and counseling for sexually abused children. The Trauma Institute, which is located on the ground level, provides training and educational facilities for the University of Missouri. The building includes approximately 23,000 square feet and embraces private offices, therapy rooms, counseling centers, a seminar room and an assembly hall.

The incorporation of all services that are needed to help sexually abused children into one location is unique, and presents a complex design criteria. Because of the scope of community involvement, Mitchell Wall Architecture & Design’s challenge was to provide an environment in which different disciplines could work with the children in a secure and reassuring setting.
